There is one Year 1 class at Knighton Fields Primary Academy. The staff in Year 1 are Mr Warrington and Mrs Tank (class teachers sharing the role), Miss Whitehead (teaching assistant), Mrs Obern (intervention & reading teaching assistant) and Mrs Arnold (special education support assistant).

In Year 1, children make the transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage to the National Curriculum. They continue to develop their phonic knowledge through daily sessions and a ‘book rich’ English syllabus. Children in Year 1 also have whole class maths lessons in the mornings, alongside small group ‘Numbers and Patterns’ sessions in the afternoons. Other subjects include science, RE, music, computing and PE. History and geography are taught as part of topics in the Creative Curriculum, which include ‘Navigating Knighton’, ‘It’s not what you know it’s who you know’, and ‘Dungeons and Dragons’.
